Funeral for the Fake

I returned to the old pier

Days of us behind me

Clutching my symbol of so-called love

Between my fingers tightly

Before me waves crashed

The sun burned my skin

Viscious seagulls fought and squawked

At an overflowing bin

My steps along the creaking deck

A journey I must take

With my heart in my hands

A funeral for the fake

At Captain Jack's Bar I sat a while

And bought myself a drink

Re-playing memories over

Giving me time to think

Then I took that precious sapphire heart

Held it to the light

Walked to the pier edge

Still holding on to it tight

It sparkled as I let it fall

Into the murky depths of the sea

You said this heart was forever

But your forever wasn't with me
